Not many things in life are free these days, and when they are, they usually come with some hidden fee or agenda. However, GO! Southampton has managed to do the impossible. Create a free space with over 100 free activities for the summer.
It’s something I never thought was possible.
So, when I got asked to come on down and visit the seaside in Guildhall square, I couldn’t resist.
Seaside in the Square
The evening started with a play in the sand – give a bunch of bloggers far too many photographic opportunities and we will take full advantage. Playing with beach balls, an abandoned boat, deck chairs, bean bag and beach huts.
After we’d got plenty of photos it was onto the cocktail master class, something I’ve always wanted to do but never been able to. Orange Rooms have provided a beach bar to the seaside serving an array of cocktails, mocktails, beers and soft drinks. We made our twist on a Round the World Mojito, which I have to say, was one of my favourite things ever!
Then, just when I thought it couldn’t get better, Mettricks began to bring food out from their Guildhall cafe and onto the beach. We continued to drink and eat and relax on the sand.
Sounds great for bloggers, but why should you care?
For the next 5 weeks, Seaside in the Square will be offering an array of free activities from beach sports to yoga to live music to an outdoor cinema. All you need to do is make sure you sign up online for each event to avoid disappointment.
Summer in a city is often boring and hot. I’m forever watching Instagram Stories of people lucky enough to go on holiday. But GO! Southampton really have created a wonderful event space here for locals to enjoy this summer.
